37. Patrick Gale - Notes From An Exhibition

Wonderful.

A story about a Canadian painter who comes to live in Penzance with her English partner and their four children; collectively they remind me a bit of our family.

The story is told backwards, so she dies quite near the beginning and the rest of the narrative continues in reverse chronology. Interspersed, various of the kids tell us bits of their life.

Rachael is a painter quite like Barbara Hepworth who appears in the book. She and her partner are slightly older than us so children of the 60's to an extent. Her early life in Canada makes me think of my favourite singer Jane Siberia, whose music is rolling away as I type this.

I can think of little more to say except 'wonderful' again; I loved it and shall read more Patrick Gale soon.
