347. Angus Wilson - Emile Zola: An Introductory Study Of His Novels

I borrowed, purloined or stole quite a few of my parents’ now unwanted books on a visit to Bristol yesterday.

This is not a great book, but it gave me what I wanted – an overview of Zola. Wilson reckons the four best are 'Germinal', 'La Terre', 'L’Assommoir' (which translates variously as The Dram Shop) and 'Le Debacle'. So I shall read these.
