A lot more fun than Conrad, despite the title.
Block writes a very good story and Matt Scudder is an interesting character. The ending is presaged by a long conversation about justice, right and wrong, between Scudder and Mickey Ballou, the Irish hoodlum who acts as his deus- ex–machina when the legal justice system cannot perform.
The villains (who are pretty villainous) are suitably dealt with.
