This is even better; the first in the Jackson Brodie series.
Begins with three quite unconnected murders, happening at different times with a different cast, although all set in or around Cambridge.
One involves the family of Julia, Jackson’s actress girlfriend in no.334 above (she and her sister Amelia are probably the most interesting characters in this book; I found her a bit over the top in no.334, but that is deliberate as is clear here).
Brodie doesn’t arrest criminals like a policeman; rather he solves the puzzles of the crimes. The books are very clever and very funny.
