33. B.A. Morton - Mrs Jones

This is quite a good US cop thriller written, amazingly, by someone who must be someone's Gran and who lives in Northumbria.

It has a neat conceit - an English girl flies to New York, witnesses a murder, gets involved with the investigating cop, and together they become pretty embroiled in a complex plot.

Shame about the ending; she inherits the money and they ride off into the sunset (well Switzerland actually) to collect the money. So a mix of the hard-boiled, sentimental and improbably unendurable hero.

Keep writing Mrs Morton!
