308. Michael Connelly - The Black Echo

This year’s aeroplane read. Never read any Michael Connelly before and, by chance, this looks like a re-issue of his first published book.

Geographically LA/Hollywood – Elroy country. The hero Harry (Hieronymus) Bosch – ex VC detective in the LAPD – James Lee Burke territory.

Connelly acknowledges debt to Chandler in the characterisation of Bosch, so it is familiar country.

Plot – quite clever. But the book is a bit of a bland amalgam of the above. OK, but borrow one from the library when you want an undemanding thriller.
