27. Thomas Hardy - Tess Of The D'Urbervilles


Thought I had better read a non-crime book.

Haven't read any Hardy for years; don't know quite what to make of this. Hardy obviously took his role as rural, unconventional somewhat maverick novelist quite seriously.

Tess is a bit sugary, despite being tragic, Angel Clare thinks of himself as unconventional but falls at the first serious hurdle (Tess' history) and this is quite well portrayed.

Conclusion: I really don't know...
