26. Peter Robinson - In A Dry Season

I had read this before and had always been a bit put off by the fact that (I think) Reginald Hill has written a book with a similar theme (Underworld? the discovery of a body in a previously flooded village, exposed in a drought).

This is very good indeed, the first I think post-divorce from Sandra book in which Banks meets Annie Cabbot and their unconventional relationship is explored in some depth.

Clever plotting too; the only murder in the book took place in the war in the 1940s but is nonetheless solved.

One of his best.
