258. Michael Connelly - The Gods Of Guilt

John Harvey is obviously a friend of Connelly and recommended him. This was one of the courtroom, as opposed to more overt, thrillers, featuring Mickey Haller.

I found it readable but dull, and thought the writing was quite complacent – as if ‘I know I am an acknowledged master of the genre’. No great effort is being made to grab the reader. He also has a very annoying habit of using legalise abbreviations in dialogue and then interrupting the dialogue to explain the abbreviation. This is just poor writing.

The plot was workmanlike but undistinguished.
