234. Ian Rankin - Saints Of The Shadow Bible

Our local library is I am sure struggling to survive, so I went in to give it a bit of support. Few decent books though!

Anyway another and new-ish Rebus, this time post his unsuccessful sojourn in ‘The Complaints’ although he is partnered by Malcolm Fox in this book.

Siobhan has now been promoted above Rebus and leads the enquiry into two apparently unrelated killings.

Scotland’s new politics has engendered some skulduggery which leads to Rebus’ past being (indirectly) investigated mainly by Malcolm Fox – the saints of the title are an old, fairly corrupt bunch of ‘old style police’, with whom Rebus worked early in his career, and the shadow bible is the book of Scottish criminal law which they believed they could get round when necessary. Rebus, typically, was half in and half out of the group.

Quite a good story but I have read too much Rebus recently and must change tack.
