Best serious holiday read so far.
Never read any Faulkner before, but this, although difficult was very good, especially part two (out of four) which has unpunctuated stream of conscious narrative that I reckon is better than Joyce at the end of Ulysses.
Narrated (part one) by a deranged adult, the plot involves the gradual disintegration of a semi-genteel southern family in the US, complete with a suicide, I think incest, alcoholism and a general lack of hope particularly just before the end.
Must re-read it and read some more Faulkner.
