191. Keigo Higashino - The Devotion Of Suspect X

Marketed as ‘The Japanese Steig Larsson’, which it isn’t. But it is good - more Conan Doyle than Larsson.

Difficult to describe without giving the key plot twist away, but broadly about a maths teacher who fancies an ex-hostess, assists in the murder (by her/her daughter, doesn’t really matter) of her thuggish ex-husband, and then sets up a complex lie/alibi for her. However, he also jousts with a scientist, which leads—by a tortuous intellectual process—to his downfall.

Very different and worth a re-read in view of the twist at the end.
