180. R. J. Ellory - City Of Lies

I picked this up to escape from a dreadful library book by Sophie Hannah called... can’t remember.

I have read this before. He is a really good writer, quite serious, but portrayed in the media as essentially a crime writer. I guess the best crime writers are good writers or to quote a cliche ‘transcend the genre’.

The 'City of Lies' is New York and the central character is plucked into it Dick Whittington like by the ties of his family.

It is full of maybe a bit of gratuitous blood and gore and would make a great Tarrantino movie. The reader—like the central character—is kept guessing until the end.
