Inspector Montalbano populates BBC4 Saturday evenings in the gaps between big, dark Scandinavian thrillers (or currently Borgen, which is Danish politics).

The books are quite well-reviewed and I have never read one. It doesn’t translate that well, but this one (we had seen it on the TV) grew on me.

It’s about a fairly massive mafia involved plot to smuggle arms from the Russian mafia to an Arab country. However, the story is really based around a number of relatively trivial events that lead you there.

Would I read another? Only from a library.
