158. Jake Arnott - Johnny Come Home

Read this as an interlude between my two new books, no.157 & no.159.

It is quite good — can’t really make my mind up about Jake Arnott, 'The Long Firm' was great but the violence was a bit excessive and televised poorly.

Is this a new genre — Brit crime (gay) or is it ephemera? I don’t know. This book sits on the cusp between angry brigade hippy radicalism and the rise of glam rock.

Johnny is a sad old roué; the hero is probably Pretty Boy, a rent boy who discovers a bit of soul with Nina, a gay woman who seduces him.

All a bit confused like that era!
