149. George Orwell - Homage To Catalonia

Thought I would read this in view of our impending trip to Barcelona.

It is very flat and factual; you get no real idea why he went there or even who he is fighting for one of the many quasi-socialist groups who seem to be allied (off & on) against Franco.

There is quite a good postscript, written in 1943 (the book itself was published in 1938, written I think in 1937), but it is all very soulless, and you don’t learn much about Barcelona or the Spanish civil war.
