139. Denise Mina - Resolution


The third and best of the Garnethill trilogy, I have said to Paddy good enough to read as a stand alone. Everything does get resolved in the end — Maureen’s father, Angus the abusive psychiatrist, and some villains local to this plot.

I think the writing and range of characters (which gets bewildering at times in 'Exiles') is tighter and more focussed in the book, although maybe the large canvas needed to be spread out in the earlier books before it can all be pulled together in this one.

She is very good — would make a great but very post-watershed TV series.
