126. David Lodge - Nice Work

Not certain whether I have read this before; certainly seen it on TV with Warren Clark and (?) Hayden Gwynne.

What struck me is how contemporary to me at university the Robyn Penrose (Gwynne) character is, and how our paths varied from English literature theory, mine into the world of work via kids, long term partnership, hers via the shadow fiction which is the trigger of the plot. So this made it especially interesting for me.

It is a very clever book, plotting the characters in parallel via the themes of 19th century women’s fiction — love and marriage, legacies, etc to provide plot points of reference/solutions.

Lodge is a good writer as I have recently discovered.
