A birthday present from D. I read this years ago when it first came out (pub 1989). It is very much an 80’s book about greed rampant capitalism and avarice.

A young lawyer joins a firm in Memphis, where he is paid stupid amounts of money, only to discover (slowly) that it is controlled by and a front for the Mafia. Approached by the FBI to divulge its secrets, he eventually does so, bribed by a large payoff from them.

It is all a bit silly really and I wouldn’t read another one of his no huge oeuvre. Get this from Waterstones
