1091. A K Blakemore - The Manningtree Witches

I didn’t really enjoy this.

Set in 17th century Essex, when the men were all away at war (which war?), and society was largely matriarchal, although Puritan rule associated many of them with witchcraft.

A (male) witchfinder arrives in the village, and many of its women are accused and some are hanged for witchcraft. The young heroine, Rebecca West, seduces the witchfinder and then helps in his death before fleeing.

I couldn’t really see the point of it.
