I am a big fan, especially of the Jackson Brodie series and found this a bit disappointing.
Set in 1920’s London, the central figure is Nellie Coker (and her huge family), a night-club owner who is released from prison as the book opens, and who treads on the side of the law such people often tread. Opposing her is John Frobisher, a Met policeman and his sidekick the beautiful Gwendolen Kelling.
It is long and I am not sure where the narrative is going or what the point of it is. Lots of episodes involving different members of the huge cast, but drifts towards an unsatisfactory conclusion.
