This was a brilliant TV drama twenty plus years ago, but I think the book has dated.
Heavily imbued in the English class system as it was in the last century, and old Etonians/Oxbridge upper class chaps at the top of the tree, inevitably.
The plot was pretty obscure at least; it is clear that there is a ‘mole’ at the top of MI5, but the logic of quite how this was discovered was obscure, at least, to me (how does the initial plot line involving Ricki Tarr and the Russian girl, and indeed the betrayal of Jim Prideauxrelate to this?).
Becomes a little clearer near the end, but not clear enough. The writing is quite sloppy, compared with no. 1072, above.
