1072. Colin Dexter - The Daughters Of Cain


Haven’t read any of these for years, but thought I would read something a bit less contemporary, and this is brilliant (compared to some more recent books).

The complex plot had clearly been well worked out in advance (see the Promelogmena at the start), and the plotting is incredibly clever but coherent. Two murders (as in no.1071), but these had been properly thought through before Dexter put pen to page. Sorry Ellie Griffiths, but the contrast is stark!
