This is a good gothic/modern crime novel, about several murders in a school. There are three narrators who intersperse, Clare, a teacher in the school and friend of the murderers; Harbinder, a well-characterised gay Sikh police inspector; and Clare’s daughter, I thought weakly characterised, but possibly representative of a much younger generation than me.
The gothic element (which is a bit of a red herring) aside, the plot involves Clare someone, presumably the murderer, accessing Clare’s diary and writing cryptic messages in it.
It is well written and gripping, but the ending is weak, the murderer is a minor plot character, but there are no clues that I could spot that he is the killer. But good.
