1062. Gavin Collinson - An Accident In Paris

A library book via P.

A P.I. Marc Novak is approached by a mysterious official-sounding couple to investigate the death of Lady Di In Paris.

There are lots of flaws in the original investigation (Henry Paul, the chauffeur, was not a drinker, and the French police closed any investigation very quickly), so Marc tries to track down people who may know some of the buried details. But everyone he meets is quickly murdered.

It transpires that the murder may have been organised and committed by a semi-officially sanctioned arms cartel concerned that Diana’s campaign against ux land mines may damage their trade, and Novak’s investigation is a plot to ensure that the cover-up is complete.

So quite a good and clever plot, but Novak is a ridiculous superhero character who escapes in wholly implausible ways from all sorts of threats to his life. Well plotted, but poorly written.
