1056. Liane Moriarty - Apples Never Fall

A library book via P, about a couple, the Delaney’s, their four adult children and very good on adult sibling rivalry.

The couple used to be professional tennis coaches but have now retired. Their kids have varied lives, none hugely successful. A girl turns up out of the blue at the Delaney’s house having apparently been beaten up by her boyfriend, and befriends, particularly Joy Delaney. The kids are all suspicious of her motivation.

There is a great scene in which the fiercely ambitious father berates each of his children around a family meal about their lack of ambition and achievement particularly on the tennis court, where in his view they could all have been high-achieving champions.

There are lots of good things in the book but it lacked any great substance or, dare I say it, point.
