This started well but deteriorated.
Starts in 1995 (but should have been 20+ years earlier) with three hippies who decide to escape conventionality and form a commune. One, Kit, had a trust fund from his wealthy and loathed parents which funds this. Kit and Tara are a couple who soon produce a child. Their bossy friend Jeremy runs the place.
Jeremy introduces Dani, a 14-year-old runaway he has picked up and rescued in London. There are a few other co-residents. Sounds interesting and promising but the plot then drags on endlessly.
The residents are unhappy with Jeremy’s dictatorial and controlling approach, but nothing of any great significance happens for the next 200 pages until it climaxes with a resident dying in hospital, and the whole thing falling to pieces. Weak and inconsequential plotting after a good start.
