1049. Peter Robinson - A Dedicated Man

An early Inspector Banks book and a very good, if slightly old fashioned detective novel.

A body is found in a field in the North Yorkshire moors. There are a number of local suspects, all friends/contacts/the wife of the murderee. A local schoolgirl, out with her boyfriend in the surrounding woods, thinks/knows she has seen something relevant.

Banks and colleagues find the whole thing baffling, no apparent motive, and everyone appears alibied. It is his wife Sandra who spots the point that leads to the solution. The schoolgirl, who was right in her suspicions, is murdered by the protagonist.

A bit Agatha Christie- ish, closely knit community of suspects.
