Bought this in error, read it before as a library book (no.980), but it is very good, long and complex with a huge cast of characters.
A cold case from 40 years ago, about the disappearance/apparent murder of a GP from her practice in East London. The perpetrator is assumed to be a serial killer in Broadmoor, but he has never confessed nor has a body been found.
Life in the doctor’s surgery in the early 70’s is beautifully recreated and it transpires that there are a bewildering variety of possible suspects who emerge from the life in and around the surgery and her own troubled marriage.
The relationship between Strike and Robin continues to be beautifully portrayed, but the logic to the conclusion, even second time round, is pretty tricky to follow.
Far longer than the average detective novel, but wonderfully well put together, and possibly lifting the genre onto a new level.
