The fourth (I think) Cormoran Strike book and the best I have read so far.
Begins with Robin marrying Matthew (reluctantly) but they have separated by the end. The plot, which is fiendishly clever, takes us into the heart of the Tory aristocracy, with Robin spending many hours early in the book impersonating a wealthy MP’s god-daughter and working in the Commons trying to dig up dirt on a blackmailer.
The MP is rather surprisingly murdered (he is a pretty unpleasant character and not an obvious victim) but as the (again very long) book develops the complexities around his family begin to unravel and it becomes clear whodunit.
Strike’s glamorous ex-girlfriend makes an appearance and clearly wants him back, which stalls the budding romance between him and Robin, and also reminds you that the aristocracy is already present in the books.
Brilliant – I keep being told to read the Harry Potter books and maybe I will.
